United States Embassy needs a Telephone Operator

The U.S. Consulate in Lagos is seeking to employ a suitable and qualified candidate for the position of Telephone Operator in the Information Program Center.

Job Description

  • The incumbent severs as Telephone/Switchboard Operator. 
  • S/he operates Nortel Communication Server 1000E multiple console switchboard (CS 1000E). 
  • S/he receives and redirects local, long-distance and international calls. 
  • Provides authorized information to callers. 
  • Additionally, s/he will also cross train in mail room operations.

Requirements:

  • Completion of Secondary school is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years work experience in telephone switchboard operation is required.
  • Level III (Good working knowledge) Speaking /Reading/Writing in English is required. Language proficiency will be tested.
  • Good knowledge of Nigeria postal rules and post organization is required.
  • Ability to work and deal effectively with others, both on the phone and in person is required.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds weight easily.

Additional Selection Criteria

  • Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
  • Current OR employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
  • Current OR employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report (EPR) are not eligible to apply
  • Current NOR employees hired on a Family Member Appointment (FMA) or a Personal Service Agreement (PSA) are not eligible to apply within the first 90 calendar days of their employment, unless they have a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule
  • The candidate must be able to obtain and hold the local security certification after selection.
  • Candidates who are EFMs, USEFMs, AEFMs, or MOHs must have at least one year remaining on their sponsor’s tour of duty to be considered eligible to apply for this position.
