Job Position: Junior Accountant

Job Location: Victoria Island, Lagos

Job Description

  • To provide support in the various accounting functions which include correcting, processing, analyzing, and reconciling a wide variety of accounting documents such as invoices, departmental billings, employee reimbursements, cash receipts, and vendor statements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Verification of calculations and input of codes into the accounting system in an accurate manner;
  • Posting of cash receipts and payment vouchers into the cashbook;
  • Ensuring all respective support documents such as receipts are attached to payment vouchers;
  • Monthly preparation of bank reconciliations;
  • The compilation, analysis, and preparation of data for financial statements, expenditures, revenues, accounts, and reports;
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and provision of updates on budget implementation;
  • Assist in monitoring the expenditures to ensure that funds are utilized appropriately by the close of the fiscal year.
  • Participation in the preparations for external, internal, and tax audit exercises;
  • Ensuring all relevant files and documents are readily available for smooth running of audit exercises;
  • Performing any other duties as required;

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Ability to reconcile and or balance financial transactions and accounts.
  • Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping terminology and practices.
  • Knowledge of general record keeping and filing systems.
  • Ability to compare data from a variety of sources for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ability to detect errors.
  • Ability to determine work priorities

Working Conditions

  • Work is primarily done in a business/office environment
  • Limited travel.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
  • Must have 3-5 years of progressive experience in finance or accounting for a structured organization (previous oil & gas experience is compulsory)
  • A certified member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN)/ACCA.
  • Knowledge of applicable accounting and financial reporting rules, regulations, and requirements
  • Strong analytical skills – understanding of revenue – cost structures and translating data to clear analytics
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel and PowerPoint); experience with financial modeling a plus.
