Job Title: Nursing Officer I

The Role

  • The Nurse Officer I reports to the Matron, is charged with providing care for hospital patients as well as assists physicians in providing treatment in various medical settings.
  • This includes but is not limited to recording and reporting symptoms or changes in patients’ conditions.
  • The Nurse Officer I will also be tasked with maintaining accurate patient reports and medical histories, administering medication and treatments to patients while observing reactions and side effects.
  • They also advise patients and their families on various health and conditions.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Maintaining accurate, complete health care records and reports.
  2. Administering medications to patients and monitoring them for side effects and reactions.
  3. Prescribing assistive medical devices and related treatments.
  4. Recording patient vital signs and medical information.
  5. Ordering medical diagnostic and clinical tests.
  6. Monitoring, reporting, and recording symptoms or changes in patient conditions.
  7. Administering intravenous medications.
  8. Modifying patient health treatment plans as indicated by patient conditions and responses.
  9. Monitor patient’s condition and assess their needs to provide the best possible care and advice
  10. Observe and interpret patient’s symptoms and communicate them to physicians
  11. Collaborate with physicians and nurses to devise individualized care plans for patients
  12. Perform routine procedures (blood pressure measurements, administering injections etc.) and fill in patients’ charts
  13. Adjust and administer patient’s medication and provide treatments according to physician’s orders
  14. Escalate patient observations and problems via approved channels
  15. Inspect the facilities and act to maintain excellent hygiene and safety (decontaminating equipment, sanitizing surfaces, preparing beds etc.)
  16. Provide instant medical care in emergencies
  17. Foster a supportive and compassionate environment to care for patients and their families
  18. Support patient in their activities of daily living {ADL}

Job Qualifications / Competencies

  1. RN / RM
  2. Bachelor’s of Nursing Science is added advantage
  3. Valid Licence – Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria
  4. NYSC Certificate or Exemption Letter
  5. 1 – 2 years as RN in hospital environment
  6. BLS certification
  7. Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians and hospital staff.
  8. Basic computer skills.
  9. Professional, friendly attitude.
  10. Experience in emergency room or intensive care
  11. Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
  12. Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
  13. Highly motivated team player willing to go the extra mile.

Special Conditions

  • Employment is contingent on passing a medical screening conducted by the hospital
  • Employee will be subject to various testing including but not limited to drug and medical testing throughout the tenure of their employment
